Farm life was hard. Though there was probably a garden for the household, and maybe some small field set out for a food crop, in Maryland the money was in tobacco. And everyone joined in when it was time to cut and hang the leaves. Cutting tobacco here is mother Jenny, with father Fred behind, then Edith, Edna, and Blanche.
It looks hot, and I bet tobacco left a strong stain on your hands. Perhaps Frank is holding the camera.
