Blanche Shaw about age 12 |
This is a small collection of photographs of the people and events from my grandmother's life. It was put together as a tribute to a most beautiful and loving person, whose love touched many people besides my mother and me, and it includes photos of both the Shaw and the Dobbin families along with my Brubaker family too.
But the album also demonstrates the remarkable power of the snapshot and the family photo to capture more than just a fleeting moment in time. I hope this project will be of interest to other people who enjoy the art of photography on the internet.
Just follow the smile.

This is a neat idea for a blog. I like how you are considering themes.
Hi Mike, what a neat thing you are doing. I'm sure that you are bringing a smile to your Grandmother's face right now.
Thanks so much for stopping by to say hello.
Hope your week is wonderful!

Hey Mike,
I was going to email you about the 11th Cavalry Band in San Francisco, around 1930 to 1940.
I saw your blog about Elizabeth Dobbin. Low and behold, we live in Pomfret, Md from 1985 to 2010. Incredible!
Do you have any pics of the 11th Cavalry Band at the Presidio of Monterey? My father was in the band from around 1929 to around 1940. A guy who he became best friends with, Frank Kirby, was interview in the book about the military bands.
Hope all is well!
